So now that we have finished that delicious pecan pie from Thanksgiving, let’s get back to business. By business I mean getting to know what kind of body type we are and dressing it to flatter every single one of its assets.
This week, I’ll be showcasing the triangle or pear figure. How do you know you are a pear, you ask? Walk to your nearest mirror and grab your measuring tape. If your shoulders are smaller than your hips and backside, you are most likely a pear shaped woman. This type of body tends to have a smaller bustline and a small waist in comparison to the hips, too. Take a cue from our muse this time around, Jennifer Lopez.
So it’s confirmed, you are a pear shape. Now, grab pencil and paper to take note of the essential pieces and tricks that flatter you. Focus on the top part of your body by choosing slim and fitted tops and cardis, bonus points if there is some sort of detail or embellishment. (Check both of J.Lo’s detailed dress bodices above!) Layering is a great way to balance the body and add visual interest to any ensemble.
Pick A-line skirts. These will emphasize your feminine and flirty figure without adding more weight to your lower half. Wide hems in pants, skirts and dresses will help balance this body type. Think wide leg pants and pointy toe shoes, so boho chic! Also, anything tailored that is not too slim around the hips and thighs will work for you and stay away from any crazy embellishments on your lower half. Experiment with color and small prints. A girl has to have fun with her clothes!
