‘Frida’ is the LETNetworks Movie of The Week

Frida is a film that is necessary for every Latino to have seen. The biopic covers the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and her breakthroughs in the artist world. She not only portrayed art in a light that was never done before her, but she did so as a Latina woman.

The biopic stars Latina actress, Salma Hayek (Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn,) who uncovers the professional and personal life of Kahlo. It even covers topics of her open sexuality, marriage with Diego Rivera and sinking into alcoholism. Beyond that, Kahlo’s health conditions are also seen in the film given she had to amputate her toes and leg due to them being gangrenous.

Overall, the story of Frida Kahlo being told is important because she was not just an artist. She was a Latina whose art was outside the box. She was openly bi-sexual. She was a leader that represented Latina women and that needs to be represented in film. This is why is it LETNetworks Movie of the Week.
