Mofongo

Be a chef for a day at this amazing tableside event! This year, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage month, Mio is offering a Mofongo Cart every night during dinner. We’ll be whipping up tableside Mofongo [moˈfoŋɡo]),  a fried plantain-based dish from Puerto Rico, with Executive Chef Roberto Hernandez.

Mofongo, is typically made with fried green plantains mashed together in a Guayacán handmade pilón, with broth, garlic, olive oil and pork cracklings. At Mio three versions will be available: Classic with Green Plantain; Yucca and Green Plantains, and the Tri-Mofongo, Green and Sweet Plantains and Yucca.

This dish will be priced at $15 for a generous portion that can be ordered as an entrée or side dish, and can serve up to two people. It will be made-to-order and served tableside.

And this Saturday, September 20th, Mio is opening its kitchen doors for one night, and one night only, to invite true foodies and culinary buffs alike to express their love for “haute cuisine.” Furthering the successful Chef For a Day series that Mio has supported since 2009, the restaurant will welcome Leonardo San Roman as the head chef and Carlos Mercader as his sous chef. Together the two experts will bring a real Puerto Rican dinner party to the Nation’s Capital, all while supporting the The Association of University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends Abroad (UPRAA).

So, join in the fun and get some delicious Puerto Rican food while it’s hot! The event is not only guaranteed to be fun (and delicious) – it’s also for a great cause. Don’t miss out on this exciting event, and don’t forget to stop by for some tableside Mofongo while you’re at it.
