I had never been much a of sandwich person, until my father took me to a restaurant while vacationing in Puerto Rico. He recommended that I get a Cuban Sandwich. For some reason, I thought it was one of the coolest names ever and I assumed it was some secret delicacy that only my father knew of. This pressed sandwich on Cuban bread (substituted with French or Italian Bread) with cooked ham, roasted pork, Swiss Cheese, Pickles (I like mine without pickles) dressed with mustard and mayonnaise instantly became my favorite sandwich.
During my trip back from visiting family over the Christmas holiday, I found a restaurant at the airport called Cigar City Brewing. Cigar City Brewing is a brewing company that was founded with the belief that beer should reflect the environment in which it is made. Due to the large cigar manufacturing and Cuban influence in the Tampa Bay area, Cigar City brews a very unique blend of beers such as Maduro Brown Ale, Tocobaga Red Ale, and Cubano-style Espresso Brown Ale, served along side Cuban Cuisine.
Their Brewery is comprised of a 15 barrel brew house occupying 6,600 square feet of warehouse space in the Carver City-Lincoln Gardens neighborhood of Tampa. So as you can imagine, I ordered one of the best Cuban Sandwiches I have ever had with a side of platanos (plantains) served as uniquely sliced chips. The roasted pork and ham were generously seasoned and pressed between the perfectly toasted bread. To accompany my meal, I had a very well-made cup of Cuban Coffee. This is just one of the many great meals they have to offer. So if you ever find yourself in Tampa, make sure to stop by Cigar City Brewing, an excellent place for lunch.
