El Gran Combo of Puerto Rico, commonly known as El Gran Combo is one of the most famous salsa groups throughout Latin America and the world. Many of the genre’s legendary singers have been members in this orchestra, which is also called “The University of Salsa.” El Gran Combo was founded by Rafael Ithier in May 1962. Ithier remains pianist of the orchestra and its music director. The group is currently promoting their latest album, Arroz Con Habichuelas, on tours around the world. This recording received the award as “Best Salsa Album” in the Latin Grammy Awards.
