La Rebelion is a classic salsa song written and performed by Joe Arroyo. It tells the story of an African couple brought to Latin America by Spanish slave traders. We think it’s such a powerful song because of the story – the slave owners hit the young woman, and the entire song is centered around her husband and his revenge. Joe Arroyo was a Colombian salsa and tropical music singer, composer, and songwriter, and has long been considered one of the greatest performers in Columbia.
