Netflix Cancels ‘One Day At A Time’

Netflix decided to cancel the Cuban-American sitcom ‘One Day At A Time.’

After three successful seasons, the show has been cancelled as Netflix has announced via Twitter. The show was based on the original series which was created by Normal Lear and premiered in 1975. The reboot was recreated in 2017 surrounding a Cuban-American family.

The show gained its large following throughout its three seasons for its inclusion of important topics such as racism, the LGBTQ community, citizenship and mental health. The show pushed important topics and did so while surrounding a Cuban-American family, you don’t see that on television every day.

Based on reactions on social media, fans were shocked to see the successful show being cancelled. “We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily….in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” the Netflix US account tweeted.

Unfortunately, the viewers for the third season was not enough to push for the fourth. Stars of the show also took to social media for their reactions of the show’s cancellation. Justina Machado, who plays Penelope Alvarez said “I’m so grateful to have played Penelope Alvarez….Yes it was a Latinx family but it was a universal story about family and love…” Fans will certainly miss this unique family and their dynamic storylines.
