With the Golden Globes behind us, movie, television and fashion enthusiasts can truly appreciate the SAG Awards as the perfect sneak peek of what’s to come at the Oscars!
The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards aired live at 8:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, January 27, 2013. This thirteen-category award show honored actors, as individuals and ensembles, for their performances in film and on television. The SAG Awards is unique because it recognizes acting as a collaborative art and even honors stunt ensembles.
As expected, A-List celebrities looked their best in gowns and tuxedos from some of the top American and international designers. The red carpet featured several stunning Latino celebrities and designers. Naya Rivera, half-Puerto Rican star of the hit series Glee, stunned in black. Modern Family star, SofiaVergara, looked amazing in her white Donna Karan gown. Honduran and Chilean celebrity, Rosci Diaz was gorgeous in her cream and black lace gown.
Tina Fey and Jennifer Garner both looked stunning in their gowns from world renowned designer Oscar de la Renta, who is of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. Busy Phillips, of Cougar Town, also looked amazing in her blue gown from Uruguayan designer, Gabriella Candela.
The SAG Awards began with dialogue from several actors playfully describing their motivation to become actors. Columbian actress, Sofia Vergarra got more than a few chuckles as she spoke about her father’s objection to her choice to become an actress and joked about her curvy figure.
Throughout the show, the cameras couldn’t get enough of these gorgeous celebrities and the unique designs they all wore.
Some of the night’s big winners were Anne Hathaway for her supporting role in Les Miserables, Daniel Day-Lewis for his leading role in Lincoln, and Jennifer Lawrence for her leading role in Silver Linings Playbook. The casts of Downton Abbey and Modern Family took home awards that night. A complete list of the winners can be found below.
As the Latino population continues to rise in the United States, Latinos are appearing more frequently in film and on television. This accounted for the growing number of Latino faces we saw from the red carpet to the big stage. In the future, we can expect to see many more beautiful Latino faces attending these award shows and accepting awards for their brilliant performances!
