Whether you’re a passionate fan of his music, or just have heard of him throughout the past couple of years, today, we made a list of 10 shocking facts that you probably didn’t know about Bruno Mars!
Bruno Mars has paved his own path in the music industry over the past decade, and he has already established himself as a legendary icon in the music industry. Back in 2010, he released “Nothin’ On You” and “Just the Way You Are,” which were the first glimpses the world saw of the young and budding artist. Over the next couple of years, Bruno Mars continued to impress and has been going just as strong in recent years, with hit songs like “That’s what I Like” (2017). He has become one of the biggest names in the industry, so we wanted to get to know him a little bit more personally. So today, we’re excited to share 10 things you probably didn’t know about Bruno Mars.
1. Bruno Mars is Latino and Asian!
Bruno Mars father is Puerto Rican, but his mother is from the Philippines. We wonder if Bruno Mars ever takes vacations to the beautiful land of the Philippines! Check out this video of Bruno Mars and his dad performing in the Philippines!
2. He also comes from Jewish descent!
His father Peter is half Puerto Rican and half Ashkenazi Jewish. But although Bruno Mars doesn’t seem to be too public about his Jewish side, his family background is even more diverse than we expected!
3. You probably didn’t know why he chose the name “Bruno Mars”.
Bruno Mars’ real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, so how did he get the name “Bruno Mars?” He was nicknamed Bruno after a rather chubby wrestler named Bruno Samartino, because Bruno Mars was very chubby when he was a kid. And for the word “Mars,” he picked it because he said girls would describe him as “out of this world.” Pretty interesting, right?
4. He was arrested for Cocaine possession in 2010.
In September of 2010, he was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas. However, since then he has stayed out of trouble, and this might just serve as a reminder to us, that even our idols are human beings, and make mistakes sometimes too. What matters is that we learn from our mistakes! (And if it makes it any better, he still looked great in his mug shot.)
5. Bruno Mars’ favorite dish is Chicken Adobo.
In a past interview, he said his favorite food was a traditional Filipino dish called Chicken Adobo. It’s a dish that involves Chicken, and sometimes seafood or vegetables marinated in vinegar, soy sauce, black peppercorn, and more! (The picture looks good! What do you think?)
6. He’s written many hit songs for other artists!
Bruno Mars isn’t just a singer, but he also loves to write music! Although writers don’t get as much credit as they might deserve, they are definitely important in the creative process. Bruno Mars has written hit singles for Flo Rida, B.O.B. and Cee Lo Green!
7. Bruno Mars has 4 sisters!
He has 4 sisters named Presley, Tahiti, Tiara, and Jaime. He also has 1 brother named Eric! Maybe his big supportive family is part of the reason behind his success!
8. His mom was a hula dancer, and his dad was a percussionist.
Not surprisingly, both of his parents love music as well. And even better, Bruno Mars’ parents actually met while they were both performing in a show!
9. He began performing 5 days a week when he was only 4 years old!
By now, we all know his family loved music. But we were surprised to learn that his family had a band called “The Love Notes,” in which he began performing regularly with when he was only 4! (I wish I could have had the courage to step on stage at the age of 4.)
10. He was born in 1985, and is already 33 years old!
For us, it seems like it was yesterday that he popped up on the scene as a young artist in his early 20’s, but how he’s already 33! Maybe we were surprised because he still looks very young, and he still continues to bring high energy to us through his music!
