Can you tell us a little about your last big single, Contra La Pared? What was it like recording it? What does it mean to you?
First and foremost thank you for having me, Contra La Pared was a fun record. I would say it was my come back record my bounce back into the scene. And it definitely did what it was supposed to do, which was open everyone’s eyes once again in the mainstream world. The music video for Contra La Pared also impacted on all major music networks viewed all over the world. It got me back on my feet, and prepared me for what was coming next.
Growing up, when did you realize you wanted to be a musician?
From a very young age actually, my father managed a Spanish band in Dominican Republic. So that musical vibe was always in the house. I feel like I was born with it running thru my veins. Growing up I had the ability to freestyle on the spot about anything and anyone. My friends would love it & enjoy it, but to me it was just what ever. I guess because it was so easy for me to do but now I actually love it. Helps the process of making music much faster depending on the record we are creating though. Also during my high school years I was introduced to the music industry as a backup dancer for different artist & I also was a hypeman as well for a few years. I would make my own music here & there but never really took it serious. Till that day came & I had to make a decision. I’ve performed in front of thousands, alongside the music industry’s best, been on TV, Radio, etc. I already had the experience in all those areas why not do it all for but for me and my career. Then 2NYCE was born.
Who are your greatest influences?
Well I would say I have the best of both worlds. Lol My Spanish side & my American side I cover all angles when it comes to musical influences. But my parents come first off rip, my family, friends and of course all the fans around the world. but the rest can go from Sergio Vargas, Tono Rosario, Wisin y Yandel, Daddy Yankee, Usher, Fabolous, Drake, Jay Z, Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, R. Kelly, Chris brown and the list can go on and on. In a nut shell, anyone that has a positive impact in the world can easily become an influence in my life & my music.
What artists would you most like to collaborate with in the future?
Let me plug the artist whom I have been working with which goes by the name of DZO. Cuban artist of Miami as well hella dope, humble, & super talented. We have gone on 2 international tours, have released 2 flaming songs together on heavy rotation in Ecuador, Chile, & all Latin America. “TOMA” & “EL AMOR.” Both are available on iTunes & the music videos are watchable on YouTube. So go go go go for those reading check that out & let us know what you think. Lol. As far as the rest, I would love to work with Wisin, Nicky Jam & Farruko. I named them first because they are also part of the #HistoryMakers Movement (www.historymakers02.com). A clothing line that I have & strongly promoted in the industry, and these guys right here have giving me nothing but love. So let’s rock.
Of all of your songs, which one means the most to you?
I must say “ESTA FIESTA” & “ESTA FIESTA ALL-STARS” because it was the baby that introduced me to the world as a solo artist. And it was a record I worked from the ground up for 2 some years before it made it on the radio & give us that worldwide recognition. Aside from that one every record we are putting out now means everything to me because they are a sign of Independence, positivity & entrepreneurship.
What’s are your goals this year? Anything big coming up?
We are going back on our international tour, we have some great music coming out, we continue to grow organically on a daily basis, which means we are doing something right. I am definitely blessed & won’t stop moving forward and making a difference in the music industry.
Do you have any advice for young Latinos who want to go into the music industry?
I don’t think it’ll happen overnight because those that you see and think “they came out of nowhere” have at least 6 to 10 years under their belt. Long nights and early morning working hard, having patients, being positive, staying humble, and doing things to the best of their abilities. Just know that if you want it bad enough you will find a way to get it done.
