What’s the secret to Mario Acosta-Velez’s success in business?

Cooking.

Said the Washington Business Journal’s 2014 Small Business Leader, “Last year, I had the privilege to be a chef for a day at Mio Restaurant (my favorite D.C. restaurant) working with the talented and celebrated Executive Chef Giovanna Huyke at Mio Restaurant. Within the last two years, I have developed a passion for cooking, and the chef-for-a-day experience solidified my interest in becoming a home chef. I cook now at least four days a week. Cooking is an art that requires planning, innovation, consistent execution and focus. These are the skills I use every day to be successful in my career.”

The young executive was featured in the Washington Business Journal where he talked about the challenges facing Hispanic businesses, good (and bad) business advice, and his own upbringing.
