éVENTS | Latin Grammy Scholarships

LatinGrammyCulturalFoundation

Education is important, we all know that. But there are certain kinds of education that seem a lot further out of reach to the general public. These fields of study are generally concentrated around the arts – painting, acting, writing, and music – because career paths centering around those subjects tend to be cutthroat and hard to break into successfully. Which is why we’re always excited at Latin é when we find out about great organizations helping students pursue their dreams in the entertainment world.

This year, the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation is offering 33 scholarships to Latin Music Students, worth a total of $600,000.

Now that’s lot of cash. This is the first time the foundation has given away these awardsand applications will be accepted until Wednesday, March 31st at 11:59 p.m. EST.

There will be two awards – The Gifted Scholarship Award and the Scholarship Tuition Assistance Award, and they will be offered in 24 countries, ready to help students pursuing a career in Latin music “in an effort to foster the next generation of extraordinary talented musicians who will continue the legacy of Latin music and its significant contribution to the world’s culture.”

The winners will be selected by a committee of music experts, and the selected applicants will be awarded with substantial financial aid to help them study at a music institution of their choice (approved by the foundation).

Applications in the following 24 countries are encouraged to apply: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, The United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The two types of scholarships offered are:

  1. The Gifted Scholarship Award, which provides monetary support to potentially three very talented students with financial strains. An annual tuition stipend will be provided to those pursuing a four year Bachelor Degree at a music institution. The maximum amount for these scholarships is $25,000 (U.S.) a year per student.
  2. The Scholarship Tuition Assistance Award will consist of a one-time tuition award at a music institution. Each selected student will receive a maximum of $10,000 (U.S.) and up to 30 students will be awarded this year.
