New York, New York – This year marked the 8th Annual Latin Mixx Conference & DJ Choice Awards, held in New York City from July 9 – 11, 2013. The traditional opening night was held at TeTé Nightclub, on July 9 and was sponsored by Monster, BMI Publishing and Send2Print. The night featured an Artist Showcase with performances by BB Bronx, JR, Los Gambinos, El Chevo, Dynasty, Jessenia Vice. Also featured on opening night was this year’s Turntablism Showcase featuring DJ Corrrupted, DJ DStar, DJ Eazy, DJ React, DJ Wuazat and DJ Zoom who demonstrated their expertise and skills on the turntables, motivating and reminding the crowd what Latin Mixx is all about, the deejay. An amazing fashion show featured the latest fashion pieces by Nime Couture, Ana Segura and Bikini Crush by D. Marie.
This year’s Conference, held on day two, July 10, was held at NASDAQ Marketsite, located in the heart of Times Square. Informative and successful discussion panels went off without a hitch. Guest panelists included Yunel Cruz, Sensato, Echo, Robet Issac of Mun2, Marcos Juares of Pandora and Rashuan Hall of Music Choice. Sponsors for the day included Ford, Universal, BMI, 1800Contaso, Monster, Billboard, Music Choice, Send2Print, LJ Productions and 360ProMobile.
The highlight and most anticipated event was the LMX DJ Choice Awards, on July 11, held at Stage48, New York City. The evening hosted some of the biggest tastemakers in the Latin music industry, along with honoring a Latin music legend as well as another who opened a path for Latinos in a new young genre of American music. The highlight of the awards show was the presentation of the two biggest honors of the night; LMX Icon Award recipient, Rubén Blades and LMX Trailblazer Award honoree Fat Joe. Rubén Blades said of the night, “Whenever someone considerably younger than me cites my music as an influence my feeling is one of gratefulness and of surprise. I appreciate and thank every one for their kind words and support.” Entertainment for the night included master illusionist Elliot Zimet and an Icon tribute performance to Rubén Blades by La Reina Nueva. Lastly, 2 major announcements were also made, the selection of DJ Carlito as La Mega 97.9 FM’s Next in the Mixx; and a partnership between Latin Mixx and Universal Music Latin Entertainment, “presenting an opportunity for the future growth and a creative outlet for the Latino deejay,” said Kevin Montano, founder of the Latin Mixx Conference & DJ Choice Awards.
