Tessa Thompson to Star in Men in Black Reboot
‘Tis the age of reboots and this time the franchise getting revitalized is 1997’s Men in Black. This new Men in Black stars Thor Ragnarok’s Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, reuniting on-screen to save the world once more. The story won’t be a complete reboot as Thompson and Hemsworth aren’t reprising Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ characters. Instead, the film is set to build on the existing MIB universe and provide a new, fresh story.
Fate of the Furious’ F. Gary Gray is set to direct the picture and Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Mecum have been tagged to write it. Hemsworth and Thompson, with their uncanny ability to play off each other in both action and comedy sequences, would likely do well under this team.
Thanks to his work as Thor and general off-screen charm, many know Chris Hemsworth as a household name already. Thompson, on the other hand, seems to be just getting started, starring in a slew of hits in recent years. The 36-year-old actress had her breakout role in 2009, starring in Tina Mabry’s indie film Mississippi Damned.
Thompson was a natural scene-stealer in her scenes as the Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, easily establishing herself as a great addition to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also featured in Alex Garland’s sci-fi adventure, Annihilation and recently starred alongside Michael B. Jordan in Creed II. In addition to her growing list of film credentials, she has a pivotal role in HBO’s second season of their hit television show, Westworld.
The new movie is slated for a 2019 release and has been confirmed to be called Men in Black: International. You can click here to watch the first official trailer.
