Triple Frontier Features an All-Star Latino Cast
Pedro Pascal, Oscar Isaac, and Adria Arjona is a cast worthy of a headline and in Netflix’s Triple Frontier, all three stars are leads. The film is an action-thriller directed by JC Chandor that follows a group of former Special Operations soldiers who team up to take down the deadly crime lord, Lorea.
Oscar Isaac plays Santiago “Pope” Garcia, a Special Operations soldier in Colombia combating drug crimes. His role sees him teaming up with the likes of Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal. Pascal plays Francisco “Catfish” Morales, the pilot on the team’s mission. Catfish and Garcia are good friends, occasionally speaking in Spanish with one another during several of the film’s scenes.
Adria Arjona plays Yovanna, the catalyst that starts it all when she informs Pope of Lorea’s whereabouts. Many of Triple Frontier‘s more tender moments come from Arjona’s Yovanna as she progresses from Pope’s informant to lover.
Triple Frontier‘s backstory itself is actually quite interesting. Originally, it was set to be directed by the Hurt Locker‘s Katheryn Bigelow, starring the likes of Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp. After a series of production lags, the movie was halted, only to be reannounced in 2015 with JC Chandor at the helm. The movie had flip-flopped between leads since, throwing around names like Will Smith, Channing Tatum, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hardy, and Mahershala Ali. By 2017, Netflix had acquired the rights to the project and attached the cast we see today. It seems like the wait was worth it because the current cast shares quite a bit of chemistry. In fact, it’s the performances that have earned the most praise from critics, complimenting how natural the actors work together. It seems like they had fun on set as well:
Triple Frontier is now on Netflix streaming worldwide.
