Selena Gomez
Selena Marie Gomez is an American actress and singer. She was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992. Her father Ricardo Joel Gomez is of Mexican descent and her mother has Italian ancestry and is a former stage actress. In 2002, Disney discovered Selena when she was 10 years old and she played as Gianna on Barney & Friends. Her first movie was 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D as Waterpark Girl. In 2007, Selena played the role as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place and won three Teen Choice Awards. She also won a Young Artist Award for her role in the film Another Cinderella Story.
In 2008 Selena formed the pop-rock band Selena Gomez and The Scene released their debut studio album “Kiss & Tell” the year after. The album was later certified Gold by RIAA. Gomez & the Scene made many televised performances. In 2010, following the success of their first album, they released their second studio album “A Year Without Rain,” which barely beat out “Kiss & Tell”, and debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200. In 2011, they released their third and final album, “When the Sun Goes Down”. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, surpassing their first two albums. Afterwards, Selena announced that she and the band were on hiatus. Despite that, she released her solo single “Come & Get it”. It peaked at number 6 on the Hot 100 charts in 2012.
In 2013, Selena released her first solo album “Stars Dance,” which hit number one on the Billboard 200 despite receiving mixed reviews from music critics. The year after Selena released “For You,” her first compilation album. The album contains songs with her band as well as her releases as a solo artist. 2015 brought her second solo album “Revival” which went on to become her second number one Album in Billboards 200. It housed multiple top 10 singles in the United States and was certified Platinum by RIAA. In 2016, her collaboration with Charlie Puth in the song “We Don’t Talk Anymore” reached the top ten in the United States. Since 2017 Selena has served as the executive producer of the series “Thirteen Reasons Why”. On the second season, she released a new single “Back to You” as a part of the soundtrack.
