Sofia Vergara

Sofia Margarita Vergara is a Columbian-American actress, model, and comedian. Born in Barranquilla, Colombia on July 10, 1972.  Her mother, Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara, is a housewife. Her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, provides cattle to the meat industry. She has five siblings.  Sofia studied at a private bilingual Spanish/English school. Sofia then went on to study pre-dentistry. However, a photographer discovered Sofia whilst at the beach, and this led to various jobs in modeling and television. Sofia would go on to become a Univision television personality in the mid-1990s after she relocated to the United States. She’s hosting the travel show Fuera de Serie, as well as the variety show A Que No Te Atreves. Also, Sofia caught the attention of English-language audiences in the 1995 American Comedy Awards.

Sofia received the Hispanic Woman of the year award by the end of the decade. In addition, Sofia hosted Colombian TV shows until 1998, when her brother was murdered and her family relocated to Miami. In the early 2000s, she became known as a film actress following her debut in 2002’s Big Trouble, starring alongside Tim Allen and Rene Russo. 2003’s Chasing Papi came next, in which Sofia plays one of Thomas Fuentes’ three girlfriends. Sofia appeared in other films, including Four Brothers and two Tyler Perry films: Meet the Browns and Madea Goes to Jail, receiving an ALMA Award nomination for the latter.

Moreover, Sofia success on television has earned her roles in films The Smurfs, New Year’s Eve, and The Three Stooges. Also, in Machete Kills, Chef, and Hot Pursuit; and voice-over roles in Happy Feet Two, Escape from Planet Earth and The Emoji Movie. In 2012, 2013, and 2016, she was the top-earning actress on US television. She stars on the ABC series Modern Family as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett. And she has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards. Also, Sofia capitalized her omnipresent celebrity status to grow Latin World Entertainment.
