Marc Anthony (Marco Antonio Muñoz) is an American singer, actor, record producer, and television producer. He was born in New York City. His father, Felipe Muñiz, is a musician, and Marc grew up around music. He began his career as a vocalist for freestyle and underground New York house music acts. He worked as a songwriter and backing vocalist for pop acts Menudo and Latin Rascals. In 1988, he released his first album Rebel, a freestyle music record. In 1992, he switched from freestyle to salsa and other Latin styles. Juan Gabriel’s hit song, “Hasta Que Te Conocí” convinced him to become a full time salsa musician. In 1993, he released his Spanish-language album, Otra Nota. It made him the new star of salsa.

In 1995 he released Todo a Su Tiempo, which won a Billboard award. It sold more than 800,000 copies and is considered a Gold record in the United States and Puerto Rico. In 1997, he released his second Spanish album, Contra La Coriente. The album’s song “Y Hubo Alguien” became his first number-one single in Billboard and the first by a salsa musician, and the first salsa song to enter the Billboard chart. His albums made him the top-selling singer in the history of salsa.

In 1998, he recorded “I want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You” for the soundtrack of The Mask of Zorro. Later, he released his fourth studio album Marc Anthony; his first solo album in English. It debuted in the top 10 on US Billboard and reached 3x Platinum in the United States.

Additionally, he debuted another salsa album, Libre in 2001. It took 14 weeks to reach number-one on Billboard Top Latin Albums. Next came Mended and Amar Sin Mentiras, the latter of which won best Latin Pop Album of the Year in 2005 Latin Grammy Awards. In 2006, he released the Spanish greatest-hits album Sigo Siendo Yo. In 2010 he released Iconos as a tribute to old Latin Songs.

In 2011, Marc was inducted into the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame. Also, he released his studio Album 3.0 in 2013. In 2018 he collaborated with Prince Royce in the song “Adicto.” Marc Anthony has sold over 12 million albums worldwide and 49 singles.
