Top Moments You Missed At The 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards
The record-setting 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards was one of the most exciting events to date! On April 25th, Billboard Magazine hosted the coveted event in Las Vegas, to honor the best Latin recordings of 2018. There were awards for performers, songs, albums, songwriters, and producers. Just in case you missed it, or wanted to see a recap, today we’re going to give you everything you need to know about this year’s Latin Billboard Music Awards in less than 5 minutes!
Ozuna steals the show.
Ozuna set a record for the most nominations in the history of the event, with 23 nominations in 15 different categories! And not surprisingly, he also led the group with 11 awards all to himself, like the Top Artist of the Year, and Top Latin Album of the year. Ozuna’s Album Odisea won him one of his awards, check it out here if you haven’t already!
Love Birds or Rivals?
This year, 2 favorites for the New Artist of the Year were Anuel AA and Karol G. But wait… they are a couple! So when Anuel AA eventually won the award, he ultimately defeated his girlfriend Karol G, but we doubt that she is that upset. What a power couple.
The host and co-hosts.
This year, Venezuelan actress and model Gaby Espino hosted the ceremony, with guest hosts Bad Bunny, Carlos Vives, Mark Tacher, and Luis Fonsi. The line-up of hosts and co-hosts was pretty strong this year!
Electrifying Performances.
The star of the show Ozuna performed “Taki Taki” and “Baila Baila Baila (Remix)” alongside DJ Snake, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, and Anuel AA. Anitta and Becky G’s song “Banana” was a hit when they performed it onstage on top of a giant banana boat. J Balvin, Sebastián Yatra, Reik, Luis Fonsi, and Nicky Jam also graced the stage, and helped to make the event a memorable and exciting one!
American Artists get some love too!
Some of the artists popular in America also were represented in this year’s event. Drake, Cardi B, Demi Lovato, DJ Snake, and Selena Gomez each received multiple nominations as well. And we know what you’re thinking, “Drake isn’t Latino!” We think he may have been given an honorary spot because of the hit single “Mia” he made with Latino artist Bad Bunny. But he also was nominated for Crossover Artist of the year, along with Demi Lovato, DJ Snake, and Cardi B (Who ended up winning the award.) Too bad he didn’t win any award though!
Other highlights and mentions.
Even though Ozuna stole the show, J Balvin, Nicky Jam, and Bad Bunny each had over 10 nominations as well, and all 3 of them won multiple awards. Banda MS, Cásper Mágico, CNCO, Darell, and Nío García each won 3 awards. J Balvin, Romeo Santos, and Shakira each won 2 awards.
